Boeing 747

The Boeing 747 was a wide-body jet that entered service with Pan Am in 1970. As a Boeing 747 launch customer, Pan Am was able to influence the design of the 747 with its requirements. Pan American asked for a design that was about double the size of the 707, reduced seat cost by 30% and was able to carry over 400 passengers using a 3-4-3 seating configuration.
