Modern US Navy Cruisers DVD
This DVD is an all new collection of Navy films on post-WW2 cruisers. After WW2, most cruisers were mothballed or were salvaged for scrap. It was clear that guided missiles were the future and a new breed of ships were born. This also gave the Navy the opportunity to outfit these new ships with nuclear power, e.g. USS California and the USS Long Beach.
Film #1 - Life at Sea - USS Macon, CA-132. This is a very rare Navy film about going to sea on the USS Macon CA-132 cruiser. It was filmed in peacetime and shows life aboard the great ship as she sails around the world ports. Runtime is about 18 minutes.
Film #2 - Come Sail with Me - USS Columbus, CG-12 (formerly CL-74; in this film, she is the refitted Guided Missile Cruiser CG-12). Covers sailing on board this mighty ship, with added information on the sailors' schooling needed to launch and maintain the guided missiles. Runtime is about 28 minutes.
Film #3 - USS California or Chiefs of the Navy - This film is about the importance of the senior non-commissioned Chiefs of the Navy and how they keep the fleet functioning. The great thing about this film is that it was filmed on-board the USS California CGN-36. Runtime is about 28 minutes.
Film #4 - Nuclear Navy - About the USS Long Beach CGN-9, USS Bainbridge, and CVN-65. The nuclear fleet that sailed around the world on nuclear power. A nuclear fleet that will not require refueling for 20 years. Therefore, the time at sea is only limited by the men and supplies. Amazing story. Runtime is about 13 minutes.
Film #5 - Modern Cruisers - This is a collection of newsreels on US Navy Nuclear Ships. 1st, Modern Cruisers. 2nd, 7th fleet in Japan. 3rd, USS Jupiter in Japan. 4th, CG USS Helena launches Regulus missile. 5th, Missiles replace guns. 6th, Sixth Fleet CL-4 displays missiles. 7th, Navy at the Fair. 8th, The Nuclear Task Force. 9th, Seventh Fleet in storm aboard CVN-41. 10th, CL-83 has memorial of war dead from the Korean War. Runtime is about 20 minutes.
Film #6 - Story of the Mobile Bay Cruiser CG-53 - This film is a bonus film of HD footage of the USS Mobile Bay sailing by at San Diego Bay. We paired it up with a USN history story about the Battle of Mobile Bay during the Civil war, which is where this ship got her name. Runtime is about 3 minutes.
Total runtime for the Modern US Navy Cruisers DVD is about 110 minutes. Format is NTSC DVD and region-free.
